Vision Boarding With Magazines

VisionBoardingEvent_9.jpg

$10 per person
Ages 6 & up

Vision Boarding is when you have an idea or a direction you’d like to go in, and you need help shaping that concept with pictures, words, or letters. When using a magazine for Vision Boarding, you open the pages of the magazine and explore the imagery inside - imagery that you have probably never imagined before, but speaks to you. Fabric, makeup applications, nail polish drips, trucks driving through golden fields of wheat, strawberry shortcakes, etc.

Tin Shingle, an education platform that trains and empowers business owners to get the word out about their business through the news media, social media, and their own newsletters, has opened up their own Media Research Library for you to clip from. Find magazines like Architectural Digest, Vogue, Inc., Entrepreneur, Vogue, and even Special Interest magazines or one-time publications from otherwise out of print magazines.

Bring your own boards, glue, tape and scissors. A Little Beacon Blog will open both of our spaces: A Little Beacon Space and Tin Shingle’s CoWork Space, turning on the twinkly lights to keep you inspired.

Sit at our tables up in A Little Beacon Space on the Main Floor or sit at our desks in Tin Shingle’s CoWork Space in the Lower Level of the Telephone Building.

Sponsored by:
Tin Shingle, (who is obsessed with magazines) is an empowerment and educational platform teaching businesses and artists how to get the word out about their greatness. Now Open: Tin Shingle’s new CoWork Space in the Lower Level of the Telephone Building. Hang your shingle with Tin Shingle!

A Little Beacon Space: a proper meeting and popup event space in Beacon, offering our main room for presentations, meetings and popups, as well as a Mini Meeting Room for smaller meetings.

The PEACE Project 2019
Day
: Sunday, February 10, 2019
Time: 12-2pm
Location: A Little Beacon Space, 291 Main St, Beacon, NY

A Little Beacon Blog has partnered with Kim Beller, founder of “The PEACE project," an interactive art project to spread Peace, Equality, and Love in the community and to the world.

“In December 2016 I began folding peace cranes with the community in Wilmington NC where I lived,” says Kim. “After completing the folding of 1,000 origami peace cranes, I strung the peace cranes and they were hosted by different businesses and restaurants in and around Wilmington, NC to promote peace, love and equality. Previously, I organized the folding of 1000 cranes with my daughters school, with a home for autistic children, and for my mom during her battle with cancer, (her cranes hang in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington NC). This event in Beacon will be my fifth time folding 1000 cranes for peace!”

One thousand peace cranes will be folded, and strung into strands of 100 each, and they will be hosted by different businesses and restaurants in the Hudson Valley to promote Peace - Equality - Love.

All are welcome to this Free, Community event to fold origami peace cranes. No experience needed! Kim will guide you through the folding process and provide origami paper. Please bring a friend!

LOCATION: 291 Main Street, Beacon NY, 12508
In the historic (but not haunted) Telephone Building, in A Little Beacon’s Space.

The Hudson Valley’s Queen of Halloween is flying in on her broomstick to take over A Little Beacon Space with her first of what may become an annual Halloween Pop-Up Shopping Experience - HallowStyle. You may have read about Donna Davies, last year in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Donna is a designer, crafter and children’s book author. She will be bringing in Halloween inspired jewelry, pottery, and even her own children’s books. Sign up for a craft class and grab a brew. There will even be spooky stories for the kids.

Make ‘n Take Crafts will be available while supplies last, but require pre-registration to save yours. These are made really fast, and there is no set schedule for making.

Just take a peek at the video to set the vibe and see what decorations she might be bringing in here! In the meantime, join her Haunted Hudson Valley Facebook Page to stay connected!

Sizes & Styles

Couture pieces will be in the shop, as well as designer names like Elie Tahari, Line & Dot, and ark & co. Some labels you may not know (yet) because they were purchased overseas in Japan and Germany. Sizes ranges from 0-6, but size doesn't always matter with styles like these that come in stretch or oversize. You must come in to touch them and try them on.

Shoes sizes 7-8 from all seasons will be available. Find Gucci, snakeskin as well as never-worn heels. A few handbags will be here as well, including a D&G bag.

If you're lucky, you may find a $10 rack outside of the shop, so come on down!

The Artist's Way: A Creative Cluster

NOTICE: This Creative Cluster has filled. To ensure that everyone gets a chance to share at the table, we needed to close the group. Thank you for your interest! If nothing else, open your book and read a chapter a week and participate in spirit.

WHEN: Sundays, 1:30 pm from March 4 to May 20, 2018
WHERE: A Little Beacon Space, 291 Main St., First Floor, First Door, Beacon, NY
RSVP: This Creative Cluster has filled.

An Artist's Way group is being held at A Little Beacon Space on Sundays for the 12-week journey that Julia Cameron writes about and teaches via her classic book. This meeting time and space will be a gentle group, where people who are reading the book and going through their journey can share their thoughts and connect with others. The group serves as a connection point and hopes to foster creativity in all and nurture community. It will be lightly led by Katie Hellmuth Martin, or another person in the group over the 12 weeks.

The only requirements are these:

  • Book in hand: You have gotten your copy of The Artist's Way out of storage, and into your hands. You could go to Binnacle Books and have them order you a copy if you need to. The book in this picture was purchased at the pop-up flea at Create Space.

  • Pages: You have a new journal or stack of paper for which to write your Morning Pages. You can find journals at Play, Dream in Plastic, and Echo, and maybe Raven Rose and Lauren and Riley. Right here on Main Street Beacon. The journals in this picture were found at Play.

  • Non-artists welcome: In the words of Julia Cameron in the book:
Julia: "I teach people to let themselves be creative."
Person on the Street: "Oh. You mean we're all creative?"
    Julia: "Yes."
So don't be shy. Come on by.

  • Life happens: The book is a 12-week journey. This creative cluster will meet at 1:30 pm every Sunday from March 4 to May 20. If you can't come to every meeting, that's OK. If you just heard about this, or decided mid-way in that you want to come to a meeting, that's OK.

  • Not a professional workshop of The Artist's Way: You may have taken workshops connected to this book before. This is the first time we are doing it, so it'll be free-form and will follow the Tasks and Check-Ins of the book. And that's about all we know!

NOTICE: This Creative Cluster has filled. To ensure that everyone gets a chance to share at the table, we needed to close the group. Thank you for your interest! If nothing else, open your book and read a chapter a week and participate in spirit.

Workshop: Start Your Website Using Markers!

  • A Little Beacon Blog / Tin Shingle (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Starting your website can be a daunting task, but one that is extremely necessary if you are marketing anything, or want anyone to know about something. In this workshop, Katie Hellmuth Martin will lead you through the organization process of starting your website, in order to help you know what you're going to put on your website. What kind of pages and pictures will be there? What is the point of it? You will use markers, the dry erase board, and plenty of paper to help you map this out visually with your hands, before diving into the digital version on the computer. If you plan on using Squarespace as the source of your website, then you're in luck, as Katie can help you start it during this workshop. This is not a requirement for this workshop, however.

Katie Hellmuth Martin is a business advocate and marketing trainer. She is the creator of A Little Beacon Blog, digital producer for InHouse Design Media, and the owner of Tin Shingle, a marketing resource for small (but mighty) businesses.

LuLaRoe With Erin and Leigh Pop-Shop RETURNS in a Pop-Up Shop - October Second Saturday

After a successful pop-up shop in the spring, Erin and Leigh, life-long Beaconites and the personal dealers to many LulaRoe wardrobe junkies, are returning to A Little Beacon Space for a fall pop-up shop during October's Second Saturday.

You've heard of the LuLaRoe leggings... Maybe you even have a few pairs.

Many of you have heard of the dynamic duo LulaRoe with Erin and Leigh. They usually sell their collection of LuLaRoe clothing in homes and play with it in videos in their private Facebook Group, but now they are popping up to set up shop in A Little Beacon Space for one weekend only - October 12 - 15th, which is Second Saturday for Beacon. With sizes to fit all, get an idea of what's in store at LuLaRoe's website.

Erin and Leigh are Beaconites born and raised, and embraced the LuLaRoe model after their children were born and they wanted to be part of a business that connects with others and on a schedule they create.

Come shop with them!

LuLaRoe With Erin and Leigh LIVE in a Pop-Up Shop

You've heard of the LuLaRoe leggings... Maybe you even have a few pairs.

Many of you have heard of the dynamic duo LulaRoe with Erin and Leigh. They usually sell their collection of LuLaRoe clothing in homes and play with it in videos in their private Facebook Group, but now they are popping up to set up shop in A Little Beacon Space for one weekend only - May 12 to 14, which is Mother's Day for some, Beacon Open Studios for others, Second Saturday for all of Beacon, and one heck of a great weekend to treat oneself to comfortable and stylish clothing, with sizes to fit all. Get an idea of what's in store at LuLaRoe's website.

Erin and Leigh are Beaconites born and raised, and embraced the LuLaRoe model after their children were born and they wanted to be part of a business that connects with others and on a schedule they create.

Come shop with them!

Kitchen Cuts: Kids Hair Cuts and Face Painting

Back by popular demand, the girls from Your Presence Salon are visiting A Little Beacon Space in Beacon from their Poughkeepsie location to cut your kid's hair from 10 am to 4 pm for $16 a head, while the kids and I do face-painting at our even bigger table than last time, to accommodate so many little faces. Face-painting is $1, the proceeds from which are being donated to the Kindergarten Teacher Teams in Beacon City Schools.

The first two Kitchen Cuts raised about $60, which A Little Beacon Blog matched to bring it to a total of $130 donated to the Kindergarten Teacher Team at South Avenue School. We have gotten the paint out again to ramp up efforts to donate this amount to the other three elementary schools.

Walk-ins only. Cash or Credit. See you soon!
