The plant will use fracked gas, despite New York State having banned fracking "to protect our health and protect the climate," according to the City of Beacon's Resolution to Comment on the decision. Also in that draft resolution, the City of Beacon states that fracked gas is "especially dangerous to air and water quality of the communities outside of New York from which it is extracted, and the City of Beacon does not seek increased harms on any community, including outside of New York State." Beacon's City Council will discuss their official position on the building of this power plant at this Monday's Workshop meeting after hearing from the developers and groups in opposition, including Scenic Hudson and Food and Water Watch. Beacon's Conservation Advisory Committee has already spoken out against the proposed building of the plant. This discussion is open to the public to sit in and listen, but members of the public are not able to speak at a Workshop.
