Screening at the Howland Beacon Public Library Day: Thursday, October 24th Time: 6pm Location: 313 Main Street, Beacon NY The Howland Public Library is proud to present Episode Three of the Peekskill Riots docuseries, "Up on the Hillside, Down in the Hollow," on Thursday, October 24th at 6PM.   Seventy-five years ago, on August 27th, 1949, a Paul Robeson concert was violently attacked outside Peekskill, NY. The concert was for the benefit of the Civil Rights Congress and advertised to the Jewish and Black working-class, summer residents in the Hudson Valley. The Peekskill Evening Star and local veteran's groups - harboring disdain towards Robeson and the summer residents - organized a protest parade to stop the concert from taking place. What transpired was a horrific riot, in which innocent men, women, and children hoping to attend Paul Robeson's concert were attacked. Rocks, bottles, and other projectiles were thrown, while cars were turned over with passengers inside. All of this occurred under the wicked light of a burning cross, as years of bubbling hatred in Peekskill, NY finally burst. This is the third episode of a 5-part docuseries. Q&A with the filmmaker Jon Scott Bennett follows the screening. Good news for this hot Friday slip and slide into the weekend! Columbia University has dropped trespassing charges against several protesters who took over a building on campus to rename it Hind's Hall. Hind was the little Palestinian girl who was trapped in her family's car after Israeli IDF killed everyone in it, as well as the Red Crescent EMS workers who tried to save her. The news was begrudgingly shared by past Dutchess County Executive, Marcus Molinaro, who was quite bummed about the trespassing charges on Columbia students being dismissed. Marcus is one of several New York Congresspeople who have accepted money from Israel's lobby in the United States, AIPEC, as reported for ALBB by Arvind Dilawar months ago.
