Friday The 13th...What It Really Means...& The Retail Therapy Guide 8/13/2021

Things-To-Do-In-Beacon-Retail-Therapy.png

Well...well...well...It's Friday the 13th! This day has never felt particularly scary (unless you were a Knights Templar in 1307...eeks, King Phillip the IV of France!), and now we possibly know why, thanks to the consistent posting of Beacon-based soul healer, clairvoyant and seer, Shannon Brandt, owner  of The Raven and The Wolf Spiritual Services.

During November 2020's Friday the 13th, Shannon shared this post that might give you something different to think about today. Shannon combines it with the possible root of the word "Friday," where some believe the last day of the week was named after the goddess Freya. According to some scholars, Friday is named after two goddesses: Venus (goddess of love) and Freya (goddess of love, fertility, battle, death, and magic).

The number 13, according to some in spiritual circles, is connected to a woman's cycle as pulled by the moon, which used to be, and still is by some, celebrated openly. Usually in a society or community with a patriarchal edge, a woman's cycle is viewed as shameful and/or something to hide or hate, rather than encouraging a woman to realize "their amazing potential to create and hold space for new life," says author Tanaaz Chubb.

Therefore, Shannon encourages, Friday the 13th was considered the day of the Goddess. Yet was hindered by people like Heinrich Kramer in 1400s who felt threatened by a woman's power or healing knowledge, and developed trials to have women burned at the stake.

For Friday the 13th, we're going to go with the celebration of the female energy version, and take this moment to suggest that you consider period panties that are keepers instead of disposable pads or tampons. Read all about the best ones in Good Housekeeping! And consider donating some to a Tiny Food Pantry near you.
